Yesterday I listened… today I loved!
Based in the historic and beautiful medieval city of Canterbury, Sounds New Contemporary Music Festival occupies a unique place in the promotion of classical contemporary music in the South East of England. It strives to provide excellence - and excitement - and fun! Sounds New is about Contemporary Music, Sounds New is about excitement and freedom of artistic expression, Sounds New is about creating dynamic and challenging programmes, Sounds New is about the promotion of the Art of our Time. Sounds New's programming includes visual events, films, installations, talks, education and outreach projects, newly commissioned works as well as many other UK and World Premieres, also broadcast on BBC Radio 2 and Radio 3 and the European Broadcasting Unit. From sheer cutting edge to fun and jazz, from late-nite gigs to beautiful concerts in the Cathedral, Sounds New has something for everyone! With always a new sound in Sounds New, Sounds New is the Festival for YOU!
One of Sounds New’s aims in its mission is to promote contemporary music and the diversity of culture through music. To this end, Sounds New has always ensured that many countries are represented in its festivals. We boast of realising the works of over 100 living composers in each festival. 2011 was no different. Baltic+ has given us the opportunity to give a good representation of the Baltic countries. We have focused on Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania but have inserted other countries such as Denmark, Holland, Poland and Sweden. This was done by inviting outstanding ensembles and presenting non-national works in the festival of both established and up-and-coming new talent.
Sounds New aims to take you to a voyage of discovery in which you can delight in new worlds, new sounds and new colours. Sounds New will enchant you, invigorate you, move , excite you and elate you through an adventure which embraces cultural diversity.
